AMSTERDAM: Xiamen Customs at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport seized a crocodile specimen from a passenger’s luggage. It is the first time that Gaoqi Airport Customs has seized a crocodile specimen from a passenger.
At 11:30 that day, a Chinese-Bolivian passenger arrived at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport on flight KL883 from Amsterdam. Officials from the Gaoqi Branch of the Xiamen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau checked his luggage and found a crocodile specimen at the bottom of his suitcase.
Specimens of plants and animals are subjected to import and export restrictions in China. Passengers who want to bring them in or out of China must declare them to customs during entry/exit, and in certain cases must apply for a permit in advance.
