JAKARTA: On December 6, 2017, a world Trade organization panel ruled in favor of US authorities in a dispute concerning trade dispute duties levied by
the United States on Indonesian exporters of coated paper, having earlier twiced deferred forming a panel.In its ruling against Indonesia, the panel rejected all challenges to the US anti-dumping duties and countervailing duties, which were introduced with the intention of counteracting the sale by Indonesian companies of coated paper into the US market at below Indonesian market prices a practice known as “dumping” and unfair subsidies.
The dispute began in March 2015, when Indonesia had requested consultations with the United States concerning the imposition of anti dumping and countervailing measures on certain coated paper products from Indonesia, as well as the investigation underlying those measures.
