SANTIAGO: Chile would host the biggest Optical Telescope of the world. The European tremendously huge Telescope that would be created after the final approval of the ECO in the Atacama Desert.
The E-ELT would permit enormous scientists to progress in exoplanets department, the lunar opus of nearby galaxies and the deep Universe, as a statement of the entity indicated.
This project authorized by the Southern European Observatory (ESO), will have a cost in its first phase of thaousand billion euros and it will be operative within a period of 10 years.
It will be an infrared optical telescope with a 39 meters opening, placed in Cerro Armazones, in the Atacama Desert, 20 kilometers from Very Large Telescope of ESO in Cerro Pranal.
Chile, it is one of the most important astronomical regions of the world for its geographical situation.
ESO, that has more than 50 years of cooperation with this country in this subject, operates the Silla, Paranal and Chajnantor, three unique observation facilities in the planet.
In Paranal, the European giant handles the Very Large Telescope, the most advanced optical observatory of the world and two telescopes of trailing.
The first one of them, the Telescope of Optical Trailing and Infrared for Astronomy, (Vista, by its English initials), is employed at the infrared and it is the biggest telescope of trailing of the world.
Also the VST (VLT Survey Telescope, Telescope of Trailing of the VLT) is the biggest telescope designed exclusively to trace the sky in visible light.
Likewise, ESO is the European associate of the revolutionary telescope, ALMA, Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, a joint project with North America, East Asia and Chile, considered to be the biggest existing astronomical project.
