LAREDO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of marijuana in a commercial shipment of soap at World Trade Bridge.
“This seizure demonstrates a great example of teamwork from our CBP officers,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “The officers’ training clearly played a significant role in the discovery of this hard narcotic.”
Two cages hold packages containing 1,806 pounds of marijuana seized by CBP officers at World Trade Bridge in Laredo, TexasThe seizure occurred on Thursday, Jan. 28, when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a commercial shipment of soap for a non-intrusive inspection. A canine and non-intrusive inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 995 packages allegedly containing 1,806 pounds of marijuana hidden within the shipment. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $361,378.
CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
