TUCSON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa Commercial Facility in Nogales, Arizona, seized $2.75 million in marijuana – approximately 5,500 pounds – from a Mexican national here the other day when he attempted to enter the United States.
After an alert by a CBP narcotics-detection canine, officers found the drugs within palletized boxes identified as assorted electronic items in a tractor-trailer driven by a 29-year-old driver of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.
Officers seized the entire shipment and referred the subject to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
The seizure comes less than two weeks after a 17,000 pound marijuana seizure at the Port of Nogales, worth an estimated $8,500,000.
