TUCSON: Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, residents and seized more than 327 pounds of marijuana during separate weekend incidents at the Raul Hector Castro Port of Douglas.Drug smugglers attempted to conceal packages of marijuana from CBP officers at the Port of Douglas, including those found under the front hood as well as the front fender, cowling, both front seats, back seats, floor dash, side doors and below the window in the trunk.
Officers arrested Adilene Yudith Ruiz, 19, a U.S. citizen living in Agua Prieta, on Dec.13 after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the Dodge sedan she was driving. On Dec. 11, officers arrested Diego David Garcia-Estrada, 31, after finding nearly 62 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $30,000, throughout a Ford sedan he was driving. Officers discovered the drugs within the vehicle’s gas tank and floor.
Officers seized all drugs and both vehicles, and turned both subjects over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
