SAN DIEGO: United States Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection have intercepted a small motorboat ferrying nearly 3 1/2 tonnes of marijuana through the ocean about 140 miles south of San Diego.
Authorities detected the skiff and began tracking it at night, according to US Customs and Border Protection.
The crew caught up with the boat and boarded it, finding 265 bales of cannabis with a combined weight of about 6,900 pounds. The personnel arrested the three men aboard and took them to San Diego along with the drug haul and the fishing vessel, arriving Sunday afternoon.
The marijuana and suspects were turned over to the inter-agency San Diego Marine Task Force, and the skiff was impounded by the CBP Office of Air and Marine.
