CALIFORNIA: A 28-year-old woman attempted to smuggle a half-pound of heroin across the border by stuffing the drugs inside “her body cavity,” according to US Customs and Border Protection.
The 28-year-old woman Customs and Border Protection didn’t release her name, but identified her as a United States citizen attempted to cross the border from Mexico to Calexico, California.
Federal court records identify the woman as Adriana Chaidez-Garcia, 28, of Thermal, California. She was charged with importation of a controlled substance, a felony.
Customs sent Chaidez-Garcia to secondary inspection, where a K-9 trained to detect narcotics alerted to her, according to Customs and Border Protection.
Chaidez-Garcia was taken to a local hospital, where the heroin was removed from “her body cavity,” according to Customs and Border Protection, which didn’t elaborate.
A photo released by Customs and Border Protection shows the heroin wrapped in a condom.
Customs turned the case over to Homeland Security Investigations, a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
