DUBAI: For the second year in a row, Dubai Customs has claimed the prestigious Golden Peacock Global Award for Corporate Social Responsibility for the year 2014 in government organization category.
CSR awards ceremony for government and private entities was part of the 14th Annual International Conference on Corporate Governance & Sustainability at London. The Conference was attended by several dignitaries and CSR advocates in the EU and USA.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, expressed his joy for winning the award granted in appreciation and recognition of DC’s CSR efforts and previous social and sustainable initiatives and practices which adhered to the award’s criteria.
The UK Home Secretary, Theresa May delivered the Award to Mr. Khalil Saqer, Director of Communication Department at Dubai Customs, in the presence of Nikhil Sahni, Senior President, Govt Relationship Management, YES Bank Limited, Alok Sharma, Member Parliament for Reading West, House of Commons, UK, Lt. Gen. J. S. Ahluwalia, PVSM (Retd), President, Institute of Directors, India, Baroness Verma, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Energy & Climate Change, Govt of UK, Sir Richard Needham, Chairman, Golden Peacock Global Awards, Chairman Advisory Group, Stern UK and Vice Chair, NEC Europe and Shailesh Vara MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Justice, Govt of UK.
Saqer stressed that the leadership’s support for community work and the various initiatives introduced by DC departments in this area have had the utmost impact in enhancing the corporate reputation of Dubai Customs locally, regionally and internationally in terms of community service and sustainable development projects.
Saqer expressed his joy and said that the Golden Peacock Award is a testimony of DC’s achievements in the CSR field, namely receiving SA8000 Certification, stressing the rights of employees and customers, catering to all community segments, addressing environmental topics, and raising awareness of IPR and risks of using counterfeit products.
He added that winning the award is the result of DC’s belief in the importance of CSR, which forms an integral part of its corporate strategy and execution of several initiatives in this respect in line with the government strategic goals in this regard.
