LONDON: One of the UK’s most wanted men who allegedly tried to smuggle £1.6 million worth of cocaine into the country, has been arrested in Greece.
Simon Dutton from Bolton faces charges related to importing and supplying drugs and money-laundering.
The drugs were seized at a ‘cocaine factory’ in Stockport back in September 2009 and 39-year-old Mr. Dutton has been on the run for 6 years since.
He was finally tracked down and detained on a European Arrest Warrant by Greek police in the city of Thessaloniki on Sunday.
The operation was carried out by the National Crime Agency and Hellenic Police; Simon Dutton is now set to be extradited to the UK.
Dave Allen, head of the International Crime Bureau at the NCA, said:
“Mr. Dutton was on the NCA’s Operation Captura wanted list and his arrest means that 74 out of 86 fugitives have now been caught.
“Criminals on the run should know that we do not give up. However long it takes, we are looking for you and we have the ability to track you down.
