ABU DHABI: Officials have warned that certain products that claim to help weight loss could pose a risk to health.
The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Environment, Federal Customs, the Abu Dhabi Health Authority and the Dubai Health Authority received a notice from the US Food and Drug Administration about the hazards of some of the medical products.
Hussein Al Amiri, the assistant undersecretary for public health policies and licensing, said the FDA has warned against using Xtreme Fat Burner Capsules, which are marketed as a natural product for weight loss, reported Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National.
He said lab analysis showed the product contained sildenafil and phenolphthalein, “two unregistered components that cause a sharp drop in blood pressure to dangerous levels in heart patients, diabetics and an increase in fat levels,” said Mr Al Amiri.
Mr Al Amiri also said supplements that contain sibutramine, which include Tip-Top Shape, Lishou Slimming Coffee, Ultimate Herbal Slimcap and Natureal, may increase blood pressure and heart rate, that could lead to a stroke.
He also warned that products which claim to improve sexual performance, which include Wild Sexx Capsules, Super Drago 6000 Capsules, Sex-Love Secret Code Capsules, Ultra SX Capsules, Paradise Suplemento Natural Ultra, also pose a health risk threat to public health.
