LAHORE: Opposing the newly-announced tax amnesty scheme, the traders’ representatives said that the scheme has been announced to provide a chance to cover up corruption to a particular group before the Rangers start a Karachi-like operation in Punjab.
Addressing to a press conference at Urdu Bazaar, Anjuman-e-Tajiran Pakistan leaders Khalid Pervaiz and Abdul Razaq Babbar said that the amnesty scheme was for the protection of the corrupt mafia while small traders would get nothing from it. They said the Rangers is likely to start an operation against corruption in Punjab and the government had announced the amnesty scheme to avoid the arrest of corrupt people.
Earlier, the Anjuman-e-Tajiran Pakistan held a meeting with traders to chalk out a future course of action. The meeting decided to hold a traders convention next week in Faisalabad after which a nationwide protest against the amnesty scheme and imposition of withholding tax on banking transactions would start.
