TAIPEI: According to statistics of Xiamen Customs, 31,400 tons of fruit was exported from Taiwan to Fujian, a province in the Southeast of China, from January to July 2015. This is 30% more than in the previous year. Pineapple is the largest and fastest growing import category. Import of pineapple mounted to a total of 18,100 tons, double that of the the year previous.
There are two explanations for the growth. Firstly, fruit from Taiwan is popular in Fujian because of its high quality. Secondly, the recent establishment of a free trade zone in Fujian has made custom clearance easier and more efficient, making it possible to get fresh products to the end costumer quicker.
