DAMASCUS: Syrian and Russian businessmen discussed methods of enhancing trade exchange as well as economic cooperation between both the countries. The Russian delegation, visiting Syria, comprised representatives of different companies.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Abdul Salam Ali, stressed that the ministry aims at boosting the Syrian-Russian trade ties through expanding trade exchange to cover all the Syrian products, particularly vegetables, citrus, fruits and olive oil.
The minister affirmed the ministry’s readiness to cooperate with the Russian delegation and study its proposals regarding the holding of Syrian products exhibitions in the Russian city of Sochi and the issue of importing wheat, flour, oils and fodder cereals.
On his part, head of the Russian delegation Aslan Banich reviewed prospects of economic cooperation between the two sides such as holding exhibitions and carrying out joint projects.
He asserted the delegation’s readiness to immediately sign deals aiming to hold exhibitions for Syrian products in Russia and called for establishing a workshop as to combine agricultural machines and discuss obstacles relating to establishing bakeries and dairy products factories. He said the Russian side is ready to export necessary equipments for this purpose.
Sameer Hasan, Chairman of the Syrian-Russian Businessmen Council, referred to the possibility of signing contracts on the importation of many products directly from Russia if these products were compatible with the Syrian specification.
During the meeting, the two sides vowed to eliminate all the obstacles hindering cooperation and to open new horizons to expand trade exchange.
