ISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the government is going to promulgate an ordinance to nullify the Apex Court’s verdict which suspended collection of Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) worth Rs145 billion in the current fiscal year.
He said that the government had appealed against the Supreme Court decision and it would go to Parliament, if not relieved through the court. “The government is promulgating an ordinance, which will also it continue charging GIDC,” he revealed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the top court of the country has recently termed GIDC illegal, and reportedly ordered the federal government to refund the amount collected on account of the cess to the consumers fully or through adjustment in their gas bills.
