MANILA: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu collected a total of P13.079 billion last year surpassing the target of the Department of Finance (DOF). The finance department set a target collection of P12.497 billion but the BOC collected P582.496 million more.
Cebu Deputy District Collector for Assessment Conrado Abarintos said that the port collected P3.269 billion in the first quarter of 2014, P3.251 billion in the second quarter, P3.145 billion in the third quarter and P3.412 in the last quarter.
Abarintos said that aside from surpassing the 2014 target, Cebu also surpassed the 2013 revenue by P2.865 billion.The actual 2013 collections was P10.214 billion compared to the P13.079 in 2014.
The chunk of the BOC collection or P12.375 billion is from the Cebu district office while P171.681 million is from the sub port of Dumaguete under Collector Fe Toring.
Another P532.6 million is from the sub port of Mactan under Collector Gerry Campo.
Dumaguete port usually caters to importation of coconut copra from the Solomon Islands.Mactan port caters to imports that pass through the Mactan Cebu International Airport.Abarintos said that the 2014 collection also includes the P45 million proceeds from the sale of seized and smuggled rice shipment, which was sold through a public bidding last Dec. 29.
