LAHORE: The government has been urged by the steel melting industry to reduce the general sales tax on the electricity bills from Rs9 per unit to Rs 4.
The demand came from the chairman of Pakistan Steel Melters Association Mohammad Saeed, while addressing a press conference. He said the steel melting sector has a production capacity of 7.5 million tonnes which has educed to 3.5 million tonnes, mainly because of import of finished and semi-finished steel products. “The local industry produces iron billets, girder, angle and other products thus generating a substantial amount of revenue for the national exchequer,” he said.
