COLOMBO: The Customs department seized 36 kg of heroin at the Orugodawatte customs yard after an attempt was made to smuggle it into the country.
A customs spokesman said that the heroin had been hidden in two boxes and were brought to Sri Lanka from Pakistan.
Customs Department spokesman Leslie Gamini said that the boxes were labelled as hardware items when they were brought to Sri Lanka.
However when the boxes were opened, customs officers found heroin hidden among bolt nails. Further investigations are underway.
