COLOMBO: A couple containing Rs 60 million worth Gold stock has been detained by Sri Lankan Customs.
Arrested Couple is the resident of Wattala, arrived from Singapore in a Sri Lankan Airline attempted to smuggle 11.8 kilograms gold biscuits woth Rs 59 million concealed in their baggage.
According to the Customs media spokesman and director Lesley Gamini, the suspects had hidden a total of 118 gold biscuits inside undergarments packed inside their luggage. There were 48 gold biscuits in the woman’s luggage and the rest were inside the spouse’s luggage.
The Customs officials in September arrested two Sri Lankan nationals arrived from Singapore with 700 grams of gold bars and biscuits worth Rs.3.5 million concealed in their hand luggage.
