MADRID: The General Judicial Council reveal that during the first quarter of this year there were 18,869 such Mortgage default evictions in Spain rose during first quarter of 2015procedures carried out, 2.1% more than in the equivalent period in 2014.
Over half of these (52.6%) derived from non-payment of rent and other problems in rental properties, while 43.3%, or over 8,000, were the result of mortgage payment defaults. This represents an increase of 6% compared to the equivalent period last year. Almost a quarter of all evictions took place in Catalunya, followed by Andalucía (15.1%), the Comunidad Valenciana (14.8%) and Madrid (11.9%).
However, the number of mortgage foreclosure proceedings initiated between 1st January and 31st March was a sixth lower than last year at 20,201, and this trend was mirrored in all the regions of Spain except Galicia and Andalucía, where the figure of 4,990 represented almost a quarter of the total.
