GIBRALTAR: Spain Customs officers have seized two separate illegal fireworks in the lead-up to the Christmas period, a Spanish Customs officer said here the other day.
The raids came about as a result of increased Customs checks aimed at the detection of fireworks purchased in Spain.
Fireworks are a restricted import under the Imports and Exports Act and it is an offense to import them without a license.
Customs, Royal Gibraltar Police and the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service have recently embarked on an awareness campaign aiming to inform the public of the dangers of sub-standard fireworks to advise the public to purchase locally.
The Gibraltar Defence police have been actively assisting Customs at the frontier with the use of specially trained dogs.
