HA NOI: South Korea will help Ha Noi survey some 3,000ha of land along the banks of the Hong (Red) River to plan the city’s urban development.
The Ha Noi People’s Committee has approved the report of the South Korean-sponsored technical support project, “Strategy on urban development planning along Red River’s banks from Thang Long Bridge to Long Bien Bridge.”
The project will examine the theoretical and practical aspects of urban development in Ha Noi and review urban planning and development policies.
It will also recommend development planning measures for the 11-km-long area along the banks of the Hong River.
The stakeholders, including Ha Noi Institute of Construction and Planning, Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements and Korea Bank, have worked together to ensure a smooth run for the project.
The Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen Quoc Hung, has asked the relevant departments and agencies to cooperate with the organisations engaged in the project, especially in sharing data.
In 2007, Ha Noi had unveiled a plan to develop an urban area on the Hong River’s banks with an investment of US$7 billion.
The plan outlined residential zones spread over 750ha for some 97,000 households. Another 750ha on the river’s banks were earmarked to develop public facilities and commercial and service centres.
It had been co-drafted by a team of experts from Seoul and experts from the Ha Noi Planning and Architecture Department because of similarities in the geographical and natural conditions in the two cities. However, the plan still exists only on paper.
