JOHANNESBURG: The air intelligence unit of South African customs arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle out goods worth over Rs 75 million from the city airport with the help of a sniffer dog Anju, a star performer for the authorities since the past couple of years.
The arrested is an MBA degree holder and had been twice to the country in the past few months. On her earlier visits, she had successfully managed to smuggle out drugs from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, sources said.
Acting on the signals by Anju, an AIU team intercepted the woman after she had checked in for a Kenya Airways flight to Harare via Nairobi.
The officials said that during an inspection of her baggage, they found Methaquolene, a party drug, valued at Rs 75 million hidden inside ladies suit pieces.
