ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly was informed on Thursday that the losses of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGP) have reached to Rs 22 billion per annum due to gas theft and other technical problems.
The committee met here under the chair of Sayed Naveed Qamar and attended by other members including Shafqat Mehmood, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Dr. Arif Alvi, Sahibzada Muhammad Nazeer Sultan, Mir.Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, Raja Muhammad Ikhlas and officials from departments concerned.
During briefing, the SNGPL managing director apprised the body that due to shaky law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the SNGPL is facing line losses of Rs 4.5 billion in district Karak.
The number of illegal connections in KPK has been increased manifold, he added. He said due to increasing number of gas connections, the Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) has reached to 11 percent, which include 3.3 percent gas theft.
The Punjab province is facing 7 percent UFG, he informed.
He said that Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has allowed 4.5 UFG.
The body expressed concern over increasing UFG and directed the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to take steps to decrease the UFG.
The committee also evaluate the audit paras of 2010-11 related to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and directed it to come up with resolving remaining issues after one month.
