ISLAMABAD: The increase of regulatory duty on imported items will increase more smuggling in the country, experts and traders said.
Talking to Customs Today, experts and traders said that in Pakistan every big city markets are full of smuggled goods. Smugglers are attracted to those items which customs duty is high and they used illegal ways to import the items.
Experts also added that now the customs authorities will struggle to stop smuggling and should try to tighten the border security in this regard. The experts also added that with only Afghan transit trade Pakistan will have to bear almost 1.5 billion dollar loss.
They suggested that if the duties decreased on the imported items then the smugglers role will be finished.
