KARACHI: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Member Customs (Operations) Dr. Jawwad Owais Agha has said that smuggling from the bordering areas has increased manifold so strict surveillance is being carried to apprehend the culprits.
According to the details, Customs Preventive destroyed several tonnes of drugs and liquor worth billions of rupees seized during different raids. For this purpose a ceremony was held at Rangers Shooting and Saddle Club, M-9 Motorway, Gaddap, where senior officers were also present along with Member Customs Jawwad Agha.
During the ceremony, 18000 liquor bottles of different brands, heroin, hashish, different brands of cigarettes, several tonnes of smuggled betel nuts along with 21 tonnes of chemical used to making heroin were also destroyed in the ceremony.
After the destruction ceremony, Member Customs Jawwad Agha informed that during the current year more than Rs23.5 million contraband goods were recovered during different raids.
Smuggling from the bordering areas has been increased but a strict surveillance is being carried out to apprehend the culprits involved in the heinous crime whereas the Customs officers are working round the clock to foil such attempts, said the Member Customs.
He said Customs is collaborating with other security forces like Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Coast Guard (CG) as well as Rangers to deal with the smuggling mafia and during last few months the outcome of this collaboration has been tremendous due to which several smuggling attempts have been restricted.
The Customs officers are committed to root out the menace of smuggling causing billions of rupees loss to the economy. Smugglers and smuggling mafia will be dealt with iron hands without taking any pressure, stated Member Customs Jawwad Agha.
