LAHORE: Smugglers slipped with huge quantity of non-duty paid millions of rupees tyres of assorted types, an FIR lodged against the smugglers at Ravi Road Police Station disclosed.
As per details, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Collectorate Customs Enforcement and Compliance received a secret information that a huge quantity of smuggled tyres was being unloaded at a goods’ ada located at Ravi Road area.
A team consisting two inspectors and three spoyes reached on the spot to seize the smuggled tyres.
However, the smugglers attacked the ASO team and succeeded in slipping away with the trailer number 829 and truck number 2665 loaded with the huge quantity of tyres.
The FIR said that the smugglers attacked the ASO team and pushed them away, successfully taking away the trucks loaded with the smuggled tyres.
Upon the Customs ASO called police helpline 15 to cope with the accused but they fled away with the tyres before the police reached on the spot.
However, the police have registered a case against the accused person under section 186, 290, 291 and 353 initiating further investigation.
The members of the ASO team made sure that they can recognize the accused person who fled away with the vehicles loaded with smuggled tyres if they are brought before them.
Earlier, a Rs 10 million non-customs paid Iranian originated 2151 bitumen Rolls have been stolen away from a customs-sealed godown at the Mominpura Road, Slamat Pura, Daroghe Wala, an FIR lodged by Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement and Compliance )Investigation and Prosecution Cell, indicated.
The FIR registered on 14/11/2020, said that during a routine checkup of the customs authorities, the godown which was sealed by the Customs authorities for being dumped with the illegally imported Bitumen Rolls worth 10 million was emptied by the owner of the godown, Ajmal Khan. The FIR said that the accused person and his accomplices have broken into the godown illegally removing the seized Bitumen worth Rs 10 million and caused huge losses worth Rs4.5 million to national kitty.
The FIR disclosed that the illegally Bitumen dumped godown was sealed on information of the Collector of Customs that a huge quantity of non-customs paid Bitumen has been dumped in a godown at the Slamat Pura, Daroghawala.
After the information a team to crackdown on the godown was constituted and sent on the spot and the ASO team recovered the huge quantity of Bitumen for which the owner failed to produce any legal documents.
However, on a request of the owner that he would provide the Customs authorities the original documents provided he is given sometime. The Customs authorities accepting the owner’s request allowed him a reasonable time to produce the legal documents sealing the godown. However, on November 14, 2020, it emerged that the whole of the Bitumen was removed from the godown illegally allegedly by the owner of the godown.
The customs authorities registering a case against the accused have initiated further investigations into the case.
