KARACHI: The rare species of turtles, seized by Pakistan Customs at Quaid-e-Azam International Airport during a smuggling bid, have been released into the Haleji Lake Thatta.
District Court Malir ordered the release of 173 Black Spotted turtles into the lake which is their natural habitat.
A large number of students, media persons along with the representatives of Sindh Wildlife Department and World Wildlife Fund Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) were also present in the ceremony held at Ramsar site of Haleji Lake, which is Asia’s largest bird asylum.
Turtle smuggling was not in limelight, but this practice was controlled, when Chinese Customs confiscated a consignment of 220 black spotted turtles near Pak-China border.
