KARACHI: As the current financial year is going to end by June 30, the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has collected Rs 34.20 billion taxes against a set target of Rs 37 billion i.e. 92 percent of the total target so far, according to official document.
The officials claimed that the department would achieve the annual target by the end of this fiscal year as the provincial government has launched a campaign to encourage people for paying property, professional and motor vehicle taxes.
The major achievement of the department was the recovery in infrastructure cess. The Excise Department recovered nearly 105 percent of the estimated revenue under this head amounting to Rs 23 billion.
The department recovered Rs 23.99 billion till May 31, while the recovery during the same period last fiscal was Rs 22.8 billion.
The department recovered 84 percent of the estimated target in motor vehicles tax as it recovered Rs 3.84 billion till May 31l. In the same period last fiscal year, the department collected Rs3.6 billion.
The Excise department also achieved 101 percent target in the excise enactment tax and recovered Rs 3.5 billion against the last year’s Rs 3.2.
The department received 90 percent tax in cotton fee and recovered Rs 207.529 million against the estimated Rs 250 million, while the recovery of the cotton fee in the same period last fiscal was Rs 1.35 million.
The recovery in professional tax till May 30, 2015 was Rs 289 million against the estimated Rs 400 million. The recovered amount was Rs 2.72 million in the same period last fiscal.
The property tax was collected at Rs1.69 billion in the period under review against the estimated Rs2.8 billion. In the same period last year the recovery was Rs 1.6 billion.
The recovery in entertainment duty was Rs44.8 million, while the estimated target is Rs 42 million and the department has achieved 116 percent of the target.
