SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Gujranwala Region seized smuggled Iranian nylon ropes worth Rs200000 from a bus at Wazirabad chek-post under the Iran Transit Trade Agreement.
Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan received a tip-off by an informer that a bus with registration No: RIP-320-16 loaded with smuggled Iranian nylon ropes is going from Rawalpindi to Lahore. He ordered Assistant Director Itrat Hussain and Incharge ASO Ali to check the vehicles. The assistant director along with Superintendent Tariq Rafique and Intelligence Officers/ Inspector Syed Majid Raza and Saad Iqbal Sidhu started checking vehicles on GT Road at Wazirabad.
The team spotted the said bus about which information was carried over by the informer. The team recovered smuggled Iranian rope-bags valued Rs200000. The team asked Driver Rehmat Raja about the documents of custom paid duty but he failed to prove the status of the item. The driver told the team that smuggled Iranian ropes were loaded from the Bus Stand of Rawalpindi and he knew nothing. The team seized ropes and shifted the item to the store room and released driver with bus after a proper interrogation. The team has registered a case under Section 157/158 of Customs bylaws. The team has challaned the driver. Now the team will issue a legal notice to the Manager of Bus Stand as to why he loaded smuggled Iranian ropes on the bus without customs paid duty documents. The team will refer the case to the adjudication court for proceedings.
