KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notices to Finance secretary, Karachi Customs Appraisement collector and deputy attorney general directing them to submit their respective comments on a constitution petition filed by Nawabzada seeking release of his Toyata Passo car.
A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard the petition. Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that on June 30, 2015, an auction was held in Japan in which the petitioner participated and purchased a car Toyata Passo Model 2012 for Rs 546,000 and paid custom duty of Rs 427,160 as demanded by customs authorities on August 18, 2015.
According to the petitioner, however officials of the Finance department refused to release the vehicle on ground that Toyata Passo car was not manufactured in 2012, petitioner was informed that, car was manufactured in 2011, therefore, as per age limit prescribed by the Finance department is 3 years.
The counsel argued that petitioner fulfilled all the conditions yet the respondents refused to release the said vehicle. The Petitioner pleaded SHC to direct the respondents to release his vehicle. The court was further requested by the petitioner to restrain the respondents from the auction of his car.
