KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought comments from the chief executive officer of Cantonment Board Clifton on an application filed by Uzma Ahmed against property tax.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Munib Akhter and Justice Abdul malik Gaddi was hearing the application. During the hearing, the counsel for the respondent requested some time for filing para wise comments.
Earlier, the counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is owner of plot no 73 measuring 2000 Sq yards situated at 73, H street DHA, phase VI which is under construction.
According to the petitioner, officials of the respondents issued a challan dated July 15, 2015 which contained a demand to the tune of Rs 1,067,816 for the year ending June 30, 2016, in respect of property / house tax, conservancy tax and delivery tax for said uncompleted building.
The counsel argued that the petitioner had applied to the respondents for issuance of NOC in connection with installation of gas meter on the premises which was refused and asked the petitioner to pay first the demand bill of the house tax than she would be granted the required NOC.
The petitioner added that house is till under construction therefore respondents are not entitled to demand house tax.
