KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought para wise comments from tax authorities on a petition filed by Javaid Akhter against demand notice of tax liability of around Rs 13 million for the tax year 2009.
While hearing the petition, a two-member bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhter and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi, also continued the interim order, in which it had restrained the respondents from recovering tax from the petitioner, until the next hearing.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that petitioner is engaged under name and style of M/s Al-Karam Travels ( Private ) Limited and files his income tax returns. However, the officials of the Inland Revenue Department issued a notice, asking him to pay tax liability of around Rs 13 million for the tax year 2009.
According to the petitioner, he filed appeal before concerned appellate authority of the customs. However, the officials of the respondents approached the Summit Bank and informed the manager of the bank that they had came to recover the outstanding dues amounting to Rs 13 million against the petitioner.
Citing the chairman FBR, the chief commissioner Inland Revenue Regional Tax Office-I, the commissioner Inland Revenue Zone – III, Regional Tax Office and others as respondents, the petitioner pleaded the SHC to set aside the impugned notice and restrain the respondents from taking any action against him.
