KARACHI: Owing to recent law and order situation and security measures taken by the Model Customs Collectorate of Preventive, Pakistan Customs authorities have detained six clearing agents for not showing their identity while entering the premises of Custom House, Karachi.
The clearing agents were trying to enter the premises of Customs House without proving their identity to the Customs guards deployed at the entry gate.
An exchange of hot words was reported in the afternoon at the entry gate of Customs House, when the customs agents were asked by the guards to reveal their identity before they would be permitted to enter the premises.
Things came to a head when the other guards gathered at the entry gate which compelled the customs agents to prove their identity.
Upon disclosing their identity, it was witnessed that the cards of customs agents had expired and this is why they pressurized the customs sepoys to allow them to enter the premises.
Subsequently, customs officials detained all 6 clearing agents.
When contacted, Collector MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda confirmed the reports of detainment of the clearing agents.
He said that the MCC Preventive was acting as a front line Collectorate in connection with the security concerns of Customs House.
“In the first phase, all ‘patharas’ and make-shift stalls had been erased outside the Customs House and the Collectorate will further make the security strict in and around the Customs House,” he added.
