LAHORE: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court has cancelled the bail granted by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in six cases to former EOBI chairman Zafar Gondal in the EOBI land sale scam.
The LHC had granted him bail in six cases, while the Islamabad High Court had accepted his bail plea in one case.
A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Ejaz Chaudhry, took up the case for hearing.
Justice Ejaz Chaudhry remarked that it is not the job of the high court to put anyone on trial. “We categorically reject its decision while we set aside the decision of the Lahore High Court. We are referring these cases again to them and they should review them afresh and decide about bail applications,” he said.
The court further remarked that the cases be decided as soon as possible in the light of the law and constitution.
