JEDDAH: The Saudi Customs officers and their families have received death threats at border points on seizing contrabands including fireworks material.
Saleh Al-Khelaiwi, the head of the customs directorate, during a media workshop on the work of the Saudi Customs and the role of the media, said that customs authorities have evidence of such threats to employees and their families.
He said that fireworks are confiscated from citizens because they are allowed into the country for specific celebrations as long as they meet certain specifications.
“Such fireworks of high quality used by experts can cause injuries to general public,” he said.
Al-Khelaiwi pointed out that total imports into the country amounted to SR 319 billion during the first half of this year and exports were worth SR 96 billion during the same period.
