SARGODHA: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sargodha on Saturday confiscated 1500 kilogram of foreign-origin white zeera and 1250 kilograms dry garlic worth Rs747,500 involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs318,326.
Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamdani received information regarding a smuggling bid. He immediately formed a team consisting of Superintendent Chaudhary Muhammad Sardar, Inspectors Bashir Ahmed, Anser Saleemi, constables Rana Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Ameen Shafqat, Mehmood Muhammad Feroz and Muhammad Mansha to foil the smuggling attempt.
The ASO team intercepted a Nissan truck near Water Supply Road Muhammad Colony Sargodha city and recovered of smuggled items filled with white zeera, dry garlic and illaechi. The team asked the accused who was identify as Muhammad Iftikhar to provide the documents regarding the lawful import of the said items.
But he remained fail to do so therefore, ASO team seized consignment under the prevailing customs law section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969. The ASO authorities forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication after making seizure report for further legal action.
