SARGODHA: Anti-Smuggling Organization seized foreign origin cloth along with offending vehicle worth Rs1.9 million during a crackdown against the smugglers who were trying to smuggle goods from Peshawar to Sargodha.
Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamadani told Customs Today, the ASO staff received information that a Toyota Axio car fully loaded with foreign origin cloth is coming from Peshawar and will cross the jurisdiction of Faisalabad.
The assistant collector said that the ASO squad intercepted the vehicle bearing registration number: WD-084 near Sial Mor, Interchange and asked the owner namely Ghulam Abbas to produce documents about loaded goods but he failed to provide any proof. Due to his failure to provide relevant legal documents, the ASO staff impounded the offending vehicle loaded with 20 ‘thaans’ of Boski cloth made in China involving duty and taxes worth Rs1.4million.
Shah Samad Hamadani said that a seizure report has been lodged against the suspects while goods and vehicle have been shifted to the State Warehouse. Assistant Collector Hamadani said that ASO already enhanced its checking process on roads and due to strict checking, smuggling attempts are decreased.
