SARA-I-MUHAJIR: The Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized foreign origin almond shells worth Rs5.6 million.
Sources told Customs Today that an ASO team under the supervision of Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad thwarted an attempt of smuggling.
During a routine checking the ASO team intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration no: BSA-435 near Kotla Jam Chowk Bhakkar. During the course of checking, it was found that the passenger bus was loaded with foreign origin almond shells 700 kilograms and documents exposed that the goods were not lawfully imported.
The owner of the almonds who was later identified Khan Nawaz was asked to produce the necessary import documents but he could not furnish any documents.
Hence the goods were detained under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under Section 156(1)90 of the Customs Act 1969 read with SRO 499(1)2009 and Section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. The ASO Superintendent Jaffar Abbas forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceedings.
