SARA-I-MUHAJIR: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization seized dry fruits worth Rs6.6 million involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs1.8m near Bhakkar.
Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received information about smuggling of dry fruit.
He immediately formed an anti-smuggling squad comprising Inspector Mahmood Ahmed Dogar, Muhammad Munawar Rathore, Ghualm Sarwar Shah, Sepoy Rasool Amin Bhatti and Muhammad Safdar. The ASO team intercepted a Hino truck which was coming from Karachi side and heading towards Rawalpindi.
He added that examination of documents revealed that loaded dry fruit is of foreign origin and their documents have not been provided. The seized dry fruit was booked by Shakeel Qureshi from Gul-e-Pakistan Goods Transport Company but they failed to show any relevant legal documents regarding possession and transportation of dry fruit.
The assistant collector told that after seizing the said smuggled goods and offending vehicle, the Customs staff brought them to State Warehouse (SWH).
He said that Customs ASO team after registering a case of smuggling against the accused persons, forwarded the case to customs adjudication for further legal action.
