SARA-E-MUHAJIR: Collectorate of Customs Preventive field unit of Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sara-e-Muhajir has seized non customs paid Iranian oil Bedford tanker worth Rs2.5 million.
Sources told Customs Today Collector Muneeza Majeed received information regarding the smuggling of Iranian diesel. Following the information, the Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh formed a team comprising Superintendent Anjum Sheraz, Inspector Mazharul Haq and other to foil the smuggling bid.
During a routine checking the ASO team intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration no K-1972 with driver Munir Ahmed Son of Ghulam Akbar. During the course of checking it was found that the tanker was loaded with foreign origin 9000 liters of Iranian oil and documents exposed that the items were not lawfully imported.
The driver of the truck was asked to produce the necessary import documents but he could not furnish any. Hence the vehicle Iranian oil were detained under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under Section 156(1)90 of the Customs Act 1969 read with SRO 499(1)2009 and Section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceedings.
In this regard the Collectorate is carrying out different anti smuggling measures for seizure of non duty paid smuggled items. Customs authorities are constantly monitoring the sensitive areas within the jurisdiction of the said MCC to intercept vehicles carrying Iranian diesel.
