LONDON: Only weeks after it has been announced that the Samsung Gear VR would be available for pre-orders, the device has already been made available in the market.
Ubergizmo reports that the commercial version of the anticipated device is now available for purchase in the United States from retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy.
The device will retail for a good $99. However, Destructoid says that the attractive price has a reason behind it.
Namely, the Samsung Gear VR is only compatible with newer Samsung smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
Meanwhile, News Factor reports that the Gear VR may be a lower-end version than that of its competitors.
The website cites the Occulus Rift as a potential better performer once it comes out next year since it will have the capacity for better video and processing power in PCs.
News Factor also mentions the HoloLens from Microsoft and the VR from Sony PlayStation to be more high-end than the Gear VR. Nevertheless, the website mentions that through the Gear VR, Samsung aims to deliver a more immensive experience in watching movies and playing video games.
Gizmag offers a breakdown of what to expect from the new device.
In terms of its design, Gizmag says that the Gear VR headset is lighter, making it more comfortable to wear. Gizmag also reports that overheating issues for users of the Note 4 Innovation Edition has already been resolved.
Depending on what Samsung phone a user has, the Gear VR headset also has a little adjuster switch to alternate from smaller screen Samsung phones (S6 series) to the larger ones (such as the Note 5).
The review by Gizmag suggests that users who will purchase the Samsung Gear VR will be able to get value for their money.
However, users who are considering to purchase the device may wait a while or may have a hard time finding the device.
