ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while chairing 5th meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy praised the steps taken by the Water and Power Ministry for saving Rs27 billion through better management and minimizing line losses.
The PM also tasked the committee with evolving a well-though out strategy for better load management mechanism to improve electricity supply in the summer of 2015.
The Cabinet Committee on Energy met to review progress on decisions taken in the previous four meetings.
PM Nawaz Sharif emphasised tapping alternate resources of energy and shift furnace oil based GENCOs (generation companies) and IPPs (independent power producers) to natural gas. The Prime Minister stressed on employing cost-effective and most efficient energy resources for meeting energy needs of the country in short, medium and long terms.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, State Minister for Petroleum Jam Kamal Khan, State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Secretary Water and Power, Secretary Petroleum and Secretary Information attended the meeting.
