KARACHI: The Research and Development (R&D) Section of Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement (East) will receive another instalment of Rs4 million on Tuesday (today) from M/s Cosmos Enterprises in a Rs12.6 million tax evasion case.
The tax was evaded in the clearance of consignments consisted of panaflex sheets and other miscellaneous goods. It is to be noted that the R&D Section of Appraisement (East) with its relentless efforts has made it possible to recover the evaded amount from the M/s Cosmos Enterprises.
One of the R&D Section investigation officers confirmed that the accused Abdullah during interrogation had confessed to had been involved in tax evasion in the clearance of the consignments consisted of panaflex sheets from In-Bond Warehouse.
“During the course of investigation the accused deposited Rs4.1 million and agreed to deposit another instalment of Rs4 million on (Aug 19) Tuesday (today) which will take the recovered amount to Rs8.1 million,” he pointed out.
He informed that the authorities concerned of R&D had retrieved cellphone data of the accused Abdullah and investigate it accordingly.
To a question, the investigation officer informed Customs Today that the R&D Section had scrutinized all import data pertaining to the accused during a month and after that arrested the accused with tangible evidence.
To another query, he disclosed that the investigation was in progress, expressing his hope that more recovery was expected in few days.
He was of the view that the accused had exploit flaws in the system as all transactions had been made when the Care System was converted into automated system WeBOC.
“Initially, there was no proper working performed into the option of In-Bond and Ex-Bond in the clearance through WeBOC automated system and the accused took advantage of its as no record of consignments clearance was found in the automated system and the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs got the record of tax evasion after a thoroughly study both the system i.e. Care and WeBOC”, he asserted.
It is to be noted that that the R&D Section of MCC-Appraisement (East) has detected the tax evasion case in the beginning of last week.
