KARACHI: The Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has envisaged Rs100 million incentive package for its employees to motivate them achieve the revenue target.
In this regard the department has submitted a summary to Sindh Chief Minister for approval.
As per details, as many 6,500 employees/officials are working to collect 16 different taxes. The Sindh E&T has set Rs32 billion revenue target for current year out of which it has collected some Rs27 billion so far.
According to reports, Sindh E&T department Secretary Abdul Majid Pathan had taken up the issue with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah during a meeting.
During the meeting, Pathan forwarded a summary to the CM for approval of special fund up to Rs100 million in the head of incentives for the E&T employees/officials. He informed the CM that the tax collection target of Rs 32 billion would be achieved by the end of June. On the occasion, the CM assured the Secretary that he would approve the Rs100 million if the tax collection target was achieved.
The E&T department is collecting excise duty, cotton fees, professional tax, hotel tax, property tax, entertainment tax, motor-vehicle tax, infrastructure cess and other taxes. Collection system of half of the taxes are computerised while the rest are still collected manually. The authorities are working on full automation of the department.
