ISLAMABAD: The Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Dr. Muhammad Irshad will be retired on 23rd April (tomorrow) and in case the governments need his services then he will be hired again on contract basis because in the light of Supreme Court decision government cannot give extension to any government official.
According to the sources, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had assured Dr Muhammad Irshad that he will continue as chairman FBR till 30th June but due to some unknown reasons the notification could not be issued. The summary for re-hiring Dr Muhammad Irshad had been moved to Prime Minister Secretariate ten days ago but till Saturday evening no notification is issued in this regard.
Notification of re-hiring of Dr. Muhammad Irshad as chairman is likely to be expected tonight, in case no notification issued than on Sunday 23rd April Chairman FBR Dr. Muhammad Irshad will be issued a notification of acting chairman of FBR and Member Operations Inland Revenue Rehamatullah Khan likely to be acting chairman of FBR.
Although there are other names which are being considered for acting chairman FBR but Customs Today has learnt through reliable sources that name of Member Operation Rehmatullah Khan Wazir is on top of the list and Special Advisor to Prime Minister Haroon Akhter has also in favor of his name but the final approval will given by the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. It is pertinent to mention here that present chairman will be retired first as usual after his completing his official tenure than if government desired then another notification will be issued to hire him on contract basis.
