ISLAMABAD: The officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have not paid tax even they have the responsibility to collect taxes from others.
The FBR officials have claimed that there were only 70 officials who did not file their tax returns but sources told Customs Today that there were approximately 1,000 tax officers who didn’t file returns for the tax year 2013.
The FBR has also warned them against financial penalties through a deduction in salaries but still failed to purge itself of tax defaulters who still exist in its rank and file, as the filing date of the tax year 2014 is also going to expire by the end of this month.
Sources further revealed that FBR held a portion of the salary of officers not filing tax returns which will be blocked unless they submitted their returns. There are around 23,000 employees of the FBR and 13,000 of them have taxable incomes.
“According to section 115(1) of Income Tax Ordinance 2002, the salary/other income for the tax year is Rs50,000 or above, the taxpayer shall file return of income tax electronically in the prescribed form,” they added.
