RAWALPINDI: The second smart technology exhibition organized by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) ended on a high note. The main purpose of the exhibition was to highlight the problems faced by IT companies and find solutions for it. Also bringing awareness among business community about the latest trends and the use of modern technology to promote trade. The exhibition took place at a local hotel in which various companies placed stalls. A large number of citizens, members of academia, and masses participated and took a keen interest in robots, drones, digital products, medical equipment and IT products.
President Chamber Saboor Malik at the closing ceremony told the media that the IT sector in Pakistan has now become an industry. The IT sector has a share of $3 billion in national economy and in order to promote exports there is a need to promote nonconventional sectors like Information Technology.
He informed that it was an honor for RCCI that Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, Chairman of Punjab Board of Investment; Secretary IT Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui graced the occasion and appreciated our efforts for promoting IT sector. Representatives of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) officials, Institutes and top companies including PTCL, NUST University, Capital University, and Modern Engineering had stalls in the exhibition. Saboor Malik added that we have made recommendations which will be communicated to the government and the ministries of IT. Our key demands include tax rebates for software exports, opening an account for freelancers and setting up an IT park and university in Rawalpindi.
Former President and Group Leader Sohail Altaf said it was the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce who always takes the lead and is working to bring forward the sectors like IT. Convener Expo Raja Omar Iqbal said the conference and the exhibition will bring awareness of IT products and help us addressing future challenges. The purpose of the exhibition was to raise awareness and encourage Pakistani IT companies. Senior Vice President Nowsherwan Khalil Khan, Vice President Hamza Sarosh, Former Presidents, Deputy Convener Colonel retired Aziz Ahmed, representatives of the association traders and participants were also present on the occasion.
