KARACHI: Customs Collectorate Quetta has recovered a huge quantity of smuggled air conditioners, while during another crackdown seized non-duty paid laptops.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Jahanzeb Abbasi received information that some smugglers are going to smuggle a huge quantity of air conditioners. He immediately formed a team comprising Inspector Mohammad Ishaq, Inspector Malik Qayyum and others. The team established many pickets on main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles.
During checking, the team intercepted a truck and recovered 100 air conditioners. The team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of air conditioners but they remained failed after which the customs team seized the air conditioners. The market value of the seized air conditioners is Rs 3.5 million.
During another operation customs Quetta authorities seized non customs paid laptops. Sources said that customs authorities received tip that huge quantity of non-customs paid laptops are being smuggled outside city. The team enhanced checking in the area. During checking of a pick-up customs team recovered 200 laptops. The driver of the vehicle failed to show legal documents. Customs team seized the laptops and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication. The market value of seized laptops is Rs2.5 million.
