QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs team recovered 20 tons betel nuts worth Rs55 million from exploded liquefied petroleum LPG Bowzer at Lakpass Custom Check post near Quetta.
Sources told that Collector Customs Appraisement received credible information regarding presence of smuggled betel nut loaded at LPG bowser.
He immediately directed deputy collector to take necessary measures in this regard. Customs anti-smuggling squad comprising Superintendent Aslam Khan and Inspector Ahmed Nawaz Zehri intercepted LPG Bowser coming from Quetta towards inside country near Lakpass Customs check post.
After proper checking the said LPG bowser was found loaded with betel nuts. During checking driver of the said bowser fled away from scene and disappeared taking the advantage of darkness.
The custom staff took the possession of the said vehicle and seized the foreign origin smuggled goods along with said vehicle.
It is necessary to mention here that Collector Irfan Javed directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling.
